Intel had planned for the greater part of this decade has been mapped out, well beyond the architecture of future Ivy Bridge. Intel followed the "tick-tock" product cycle, in which each micro-architecture will be built in two fab process successfully, and each fab process gets to have two successful micro-architecture built on top of it, respectively. Westmere is an optical shrink Nehalem architecture, it is a "tick" for the 32 nm process, Sandy Bridge is the "tock", and a new architecture. Ivy Bridge is basically an optical shrink of Sandy Bridge, it is a "tick" for the 22 nm process.
Ivy Bridge will make entry through the LGA1155 platform in 2012, it would make Core 2012 processor family. Haswell is the next generation architecture and IvyBridge succeed Sandy Bridge, will be built on 22 nm process, and is expected to arrive in 2013. Roswell is an optical shrink to 14 nm, is scheduled for 2014. Look deep into the decade, there Skylake architecture, which will cover all 14 nm and 10 nm with Skymont process. This model ensures that Intel has upgraded Beatles every 2 years or more, an entirely new micro-architecture every 2 years or more as well, while providing alternating optical shrink every year. Shrinking Optical introduces new features, improved caching, and allow higher clock speeds. 10 nm processors with 2018 votes realistic view of NAND flash technology advances that push the boundaries of the development process fab. NAND flash is much more complex than the development of processors, and therefore serves as a good precursor to the new process.
